technology
The resources I have included are videos, links, and helpful tips. Use what makes your job and life easer. This section is for all teachers. I would call this a coaching and resource section.
This section is full of information about technology that I have used in my K-5 Classroom. Teachers of technology as well as students might enjoy this section.
This is a link to my professional portfolio and one day a blog! That might be exciting!
THE CLASS
I work for D49 in Colorado Springs. It is a wonderful place to work! I tell people I am in my dream job.
as a teacher that is a blessing! I worked as a K/5 classroom teacher for 14 years before I switched my focus to K/5 technology. I am K/5 Technology Enrichment Teacher as well as a building level Technology Coach. When the front office was ordering my name tag - they ordered me a "funny" one that claims my job title is "Supreme Tech Ninja". I love it so much, I wear it more than my "Technology Teacher " name tag. That was the beginning of the idea of becoming a Tech Ninja by learning to be proficient in all things technology.
ABOUT ME
Victoria Villescas
Hi! I am Victoria Villescas. I have been a teacher for over 19 years. I started out in the classroom teaching K,1,3, and 4th grades. Then I went back to school. I have a degree in Communications where I learned about video and audio editing. Little did I know it would serve me well in a Technology field. Then my 1st Masters is in Curriculum and Instruction. This is handy for Technology Coaching. Then, my second Masters is in Information Technology and e-learning from University of Colorado Denver. I loved this program! I found my calling in Educational Technology!
I have two philosophy in regards to technology; one for teachers and one for students. I would like to share a little of both with you on this front page. That way you understand my underlying perspective and ideology behind the information on this site.
For Teachers:
As a Technology Coach I would first like to say that all teachers are my heroes! One teacher stands above the rest, my Dad. He was a Special Education teacher, now retired, he is my hero and my role model. He taught me that teachers not only grow the minds but nurture hearts, inspire dreams, and become that school family to all students. He taught me to listen to my students and love their spirit. Kids will always amaze you.
We (as teachers) like to learn something, apply the best parts, and move forward quickly. It is a matter of survival. The world of technology is does not fit into that mode of learning. It is changing faster than we can provide professional development. The need for teacher professional development in Copyright, Privacy, and digital safety is at an all time high.
Professional Development needs to be more that a once or twice a year thing. It needs to be ongoing and user friendly. Teachers do not have time. This site will provide you PD in short bursts as well as links to tools I was introduced to at Technology conferences. I have filtered to my favorites but my site will only provide you a small amount of what is out there. I have left off many great tools because I want to focus on what I consider, "most bang for your buck." I hope this site is useful and educational for you.
About Students:
I believe that our children need a strong technology background. In this world, technology is a second language for all students. It opens doors. It is critical that students acquire the ability to be cross-platform and proficient on all technology. I believe that all children should have an equal chance at creating their own tomorrows. Children no matter what race, background, or SES can all access the same realm of learning given a simple device. Technology has the power to level the playing field. It is an educational imperative that we provide access for all students.
Technology can open a world of wonder! It can be a tool that brings a map to life. It can help students travel to the wetlands , volcanos, and outer-space without ever leaving the classroom. It can entertain while teaching multiplication, and identify the night sky in the middle of the day. It brings students from around the world together in one place. It provides limitless information, education and entertainment.
Technology is a landmark that defines the changing landscape of our world and within education. I believe that all teachers are obligated to give children a map of technological experiences so that children can navigate their futures.
